A group of activists from Ryazan village of Zaborye planted 30 new species of trees and shrubs in the area between a small forest and the river Staritsa. They have planned to plant 50 more species of plants, which had not previously been in the village, in the near future. Residents of Zaborye promised to develop the arboretum and take care of it on their own. Organizer of the initiative group Anna Kernosova told about this on her page on vk.com on September 5.

"We bought the land and seedlings ourselves, we are also going to take care of the arboretum on our own, together with our neighbors. We consult with eco-activist Andrei Petrutsky, who already came to us, gave advice and provided plants from his home nursery garden," said Kernosova.

Anna's husband Maxim Kernosov showed the project to the regional Minister of Natural Resources Sergey Abramov, and also attended the government of the Ryazan region, where "the initiative was accepted kindly."

— Abramov put a resolution "To organize the interaction on the issue with the applicant" onto our documents and sent it to specialists in the Ministry. The areas, where we want to place the arboretum, require recreational use, therefore they are suitable for our purpose, — Maxim Kernosov told "7x7".

Activists are planning to attract volunteers, including students of the natural-geographical faculty of Ryazan State University named for Esenin and of Ryazan specialized classes and schools, to work in the arboretum. The initiative group wants to organize regular regional and international volunteer camps.

The initiative group in the village of Zaborye was created in the spring of 2019, when it turned out that plots with 30-year-old forest were going to be sold for cutting down and further development. Local residents began "a peaceful protest" — they held a few meetings, made performances for children on necessity of preservation of nature. Anna Kernosova held several pickets, where she was dressed in costumes of fairy-tale heroes: the heroes of Russian folk tales demanded to stop cutting down their habitat — the fairy forest. Ryazan OFAS cancelled the auction, considering the actions of the administration of Zaborye village settlements illegal. The administration tried to challenge the decision in court. But the court of the Ryazan region, and then the Arbitration court of the Ryazan region confirmed the legality of the decision of the regional OFAS.
