A new wave of mobilization may begin in Russia after the presidential elections, as per the Ukrainian media and NATO. The Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, Andrey Kartapolov, called this information fake on March 11.
In early March, a document on 'additional mobilization of citizens for military service,' which resembled an order by the Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoigu, appeared online. According to the document, another 300,000 individuals should be conscripted between March 25 and June 1, 2024. Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, Andrey Kartapolov, dismissed it as fake.
'This is complete nonsense! There are no plans for mobilization at all. These are tricks played by our opponents,' claimed Kartapolov.
The 'Agentstvo' ('Agency') media outlet confirmed that the document shows signs of being fake. A similar photo circulated online in September 2023.
On September 13, 2022, the president’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said that there were not any plans of mobilization in Russia. Eight days later, Vladimir Putin declared the beginning of partial mobilization.
