Unknown individuals opened fire on the car of a poultry farm owner who had raised egg prices. The Investigative Committee announced the initiation of a case for attempted assassination on December 28.

The 'egg tycoon,' Gennady Shiryayev, became the target of an attempted murder, as reported by Telegram channels SHOT and Mash, which are closely connected to law enforcement. Shiryayev owns the Tretyakovskaya poultry factory, currently under investigation by the Federal Antimonopoly Service. The factory, along with three others, recently increased egg prices by 16 to 37%, compared to September.

Two weeks ago, Voronezh journalists attempted to discuss the soaring egg prices with Gennady Shiryayev; he hung up on them, citing a lack of time.

According to Mash, the businessman was attacked by local citizens angered by the increase in egg prices. His SUV was hit with bullets twice, but Shiryayev suffered no harm. Authorities in Borisoglebsky District declared an interception plan, and the Investigative Committee opened a case of attempted assassination.

Gennady Shiryayev’s son, Dmitriy Shiryayev, the factory’s vice director and a deputy of the regional Duma, has faced discontent among local residents. Activists in Borisoglebsk have been demanding his resignation for months. In November, the deputy left a reception venue to avoid locals dissatisfied with his work.
